Position Summary
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machining equipment to manufacture high-precision plastic components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role requires strong machining skills, attention to detail, and experience working with a variety of engineering-grade plastics used in precision applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment to produce precision plastic parts.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and work instructions.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devices.
  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC machine programs as needed.
  • Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other quality-control tools.
  • Verify compliance with customer specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, programming, materials, and machine performance.
  • Work with a variety of plastic materials, including acetal (Delrin), UHMW, nylon, PEEK, PTFE, polycarbonate, acrylic, and other engineered plastics.
  • Maintain production records, inspection documentation, and job travelers.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and plastic chips.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Experience with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar systems preferred.

Proficiency with precision measuring equipment and inspection techniques.

Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining characteristics of plastic materials.

 

Job Description:

Read set-up sheets and set tooling (end mills, drills, cutters.) Completes inspection records or other required information per customer specifications. Monitors process by means of in-process inspections. Required to use computer to enter inspection records, track time and quantity. Set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Confirm dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, calipers, etc... Takes ownership of job and quality.
