Decades ago, processing an x-ray image was far more complicated than it is today. Patients could wait for days to receive results or a diagnosis from their processed images. Fast-forward to 2020, and physicians can refer to x-rays, immediately in the moment, as the images are captured on a computer screen. Film is a relatively foreign concept to today鈥檚 emerging radiologic technicians studying at 鉴黄师app (PTC). Make no mistake, they indeed are processing hundreds of images and information 鈥 mentally 鈥 as they work their way through the rigorous, hands-on program.
Sometimes there is just no substitute for feeling the air waft across a breezeway and sliding into a desk to receive instruction that鈥檚 not broadcast through a screen. That鈥檚 why so many students at 鉴黄师app (PTC) opt for hybrid courses that allow them to have the physical, in-person experience on campus at least part of the time, socially distanced, of course.
When duty called, Piedmont Tech student teacher Caroline Falls was fully prepared to lead a first-grade classroom for the first time without her supervising teacher, Kimber Burrell, at Hodges Elementary School.
Trish Buis, training coordinator with the 鉴黄师app (PTC) Economic Development and Continuing Education Division, recently completed the National Career Pathways Network (NCPN) Leadership Development Academy (LDA).
The 鉴黄师app (PTC) Area Commission has selected Dr. Hope Rivers to serve as the college鈥檚 third president, effective January 4, 2021. The decision was made after a nationwide search to fill the position vacated by the pending retirement of longtime president Dr. L. Ray Brooks.
At Hodges Elementary School, Ms. Kimber Burrell鈥檚 first-grade class has eased into an affable routine this fall. They study the 鈥淣umber of the Day.鈥 They have reading time. They sing songs. And every day they are in class, the youngsters also learn words of affirmation, words that help instill self-confidence and reinforce the importance of being kind to others. 鉴黄师app early education student and practice teacher Caroline Falls believes the affirmations will have a lasting effect on the children.
Each year, 鉴黄师app (PTC) chooses some of its best and brightest students to serve as Presidential Ambassadors. These students represent the college at campus events, provide campus tours and speak about their experiences to various audiences, including potential students and civic organizations. This year鈥檚 14 ambassadors hail from a variety of backgrounds and represent many program areas, but they all have one thing in common 鈥 they share a deep gratitude for the impact Piedmont Tech has had on their lives.
